Yesterday we focused on being Eagle Eyes! When we are stuck on a word we can: 1) look at the picture clues 2) look at beginning sounds 3) look at ending sounds For example, if the word we are stuck on is "weird" we can look at the beginning sound 'w' and the ending sound 'd' while looking at the picture to see which of our guesses: "wacky" or "weird" looks right and makes sense. Since the pictures of these plants may be described as "wacky" or "weird," both words make sense. And when we look at the beginning sounds, both start with the letter 'w.' So, we need to also look at the ending sound, 'd,' and we discover that "weird" looks right, sounds right, and makes sense. "Wacky" does not fit or look right because it does not have the ending sound of 'd.'
